It's got sporty looks and is at its best in the heart of the city, making the Skoda Fabia a pleasure to own. The 2019 line-up receives a facelift, although it's not so much cosmetic as it is holistic. Nevertheless, it's a gorgeous looking car that relies on clever detailing to charm the senses. Inside, things are fairly low-key and minimalist, but the occasional splash of colour and differentiating textures break things up nicely, while head room is above average for a compact hatch or wagon. Leading the range is the Fabia Monte Carlo, with a 1L turbo petrol motor that produces 81kW and 200Nm. Combined with a dual-clutch auto transmission, it's a commendable pairing that keeps fuel usage to a minimum. On show are great roadholding qualities, steering feels light and the car perky to every bit of guidance. Autonomous emergency braking and reversing camera are just two of the standard pieces of equipment to ease their way into the Fabia, but a real standout is the company's capped price and pre-purchased servicing plans. All up, this is one car that is fun to drive, and even more exciting to own.
