CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (BP) – First Baptists (on Park Street), where Lottie Moon was baptized, is regaining its health.

"Opening, I believed it could rebound," Rob Pochek said. He's been minister of First Baptist Church on Park Street since 2022. "If you don't believe God can breathe life back into the Christian church it won't encounter.

"I believed if we were committed to Him, His word, His Gospel singing, He would take care of sweet-breathed life into this congregation. My plan was – is – to preach the Word of God, and let Him do the roost, and that's what's He's doing."

If you were lowering a basket retired into a mine and two or three people were holding the ropes, it would be real heavy; but all of America together? Information technology's not thus hard."

A few churches in the Southern Baptist Convention are as historically epochal Eastern Samoa First Baptistic Church (Park Street) of Charlottesville, VA. The plaques on the back wall of the adoration center manifest thereto.

She was baptized at what then was known as Charlottesville Baptist Church, which had been started in 1831. Sixteen years after her conversion, in 1873, Moon sailed for China equally an unmarried Baptist missional.

While service of process in China for 40 years, Moon frequently wrote letters back home explaining the need for funds, for more missionaries, for women's equivalence. Her letters led to the formation of the SBC's Woman's Missionary Organised, and, at Moon's request, a Christmas offering for missions.

That first national offering – in 1888 – came to $3,315. The 2022-20 Lottie Moon Christmastide Offering for International Missions came to $177.6 million. Of that total, First Baptist Park Street in Charlottesville gave $147,900.

"Our folks are incredibly generous," Pochek said. "They recognize every last gifts come from God, that they're managers and stewards of what Graven image provides.

"And our folks are passionate about missions. They believe we get on, send operating theater disobey. We have folk who recognize they don't have a sense of call to go or can't endure, but they can give."

Members believe "the church that introduced Lottie Moon to Jesus needs to follow one of the leading churches when it comes to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering," Pochek aforesaid. "All year I've been here we've continued to increase in our giving to [the Lottie Moon Christmastime Offering for International Missions,] and every clip we set a goal we blow right past it."

First Baptist Park Street is as committed to hands-on ministry as information technology is to support of God's employment in Charlottesville and throughout the world, the pastor aforementioned.

Incomparable of the church building's ministries is Pathway, for extra needs families. It started in 2022 and now has dormie to XXIV families encumbered. There is a department allow in the revere center for special needs children and adults, with "buddies" trained for one-on-one interaction.

"COVID denatured any things," Pochek said. "We used to have a once-a-hebdomad soup kitchen and clothes closet; that has stopped for the moment. The Mom-to-Mom ministry is thriving, with lots of Thomas Young families entangled in that."

The church's involvement in its community include grief, disunite and addiction recuperation ministries, jail and prison ministries, a transitional living accommodations ministry and others.

Internationally, First Park Street focuses on Guatemala, where former members Tim and Cathleen Pfeuffer minister in respective villages. In increase to its Conjunct Program giving, the church helps support eight missionaries. Two are with IMB. "We'rhenium serving to fund some of their activities," the pastor said. All are or were members of First Park Street.

"We believe if you feel God is calling you to the mission field, as your home church we want to come alongside," Pochek said.

"The plaques on the wall are markers of innovation. God is still in the business concern of increasing upward new slipway to hand people with the same old Gospels. All genesis needs a room to hear it, a new fashio of stretch hoi polloi."
